Siliguri, June 5, 2026: On World Environment Day, students of Salesian College (Autonomous), Siliguri unveiled Eco Prahari (Eco Guardian)—an Artificial Intelligence‑powered environmental monitoring platform that transforms ordinary cameras into intelligent guardians of public spaces.
Developed by the Tech Team of the Radio Club under the banner of Ecology First, the project was conceptualized and led by Anand Kumar, founder of Ecology First and the Radio Club. The launch was held in the presence of Fr. C. M. Paul, Vice Principal (Sciences) and Director of the Radio Club, along with Dr. Prajwal Chettri, Dean of Sciences and coordinator of the institution’s United Board‑supported Green Campus initiatives.
Demonstrated by Crist Minj, Eco Prahari showcased how existing CCTV infrastructure can be repurposed into an active environmental monitoring network. The system continuously learns what a space normally looks like, detects anomalies such as littering or abandoned objects, tracks their persistence, generates visual evidence, and issues automated alerts for intervention.
“The future of our planet depends on ecological intelligence, not just surveillance. Eco Prahari is our effort to make technology an active guardian of the environment—one that helps communities respond faster, act smarter, and protect shared spaces more effectively,” said Anand Kumar.
Dr. Prajwal Chettri added: “Projects such as Eco Prahari demonstrate how innovation, environmental responsibility, and student leadership can come together to create meaningful impact.”
Eco Prahari is powered by Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision, designed with scalability in mind. Its potential applications extend beyond educational institutions to railway stations, urban public spaces, smart cities, government facilities, and conservation projects.
The initiative reflects a growing culture of student innovation at Salesian College, where previous projects include Everrooted (an ecological intelligence platform), LuvlyU (a youth well‑being digital platform), and a machine‑learning‑based heart attack risk prediction system recognized at regional and national levels.
On a day dedicated to protecting the planet, Salesian College students delivered a powerful message: the next generation of environmental guardians may not wear uniforms—they may be powered by Artificial Intelligence.
